My two leaf bowls together

Here is my second attempt at making a Papier Mache leaf bowl. I still find the painting to be the hardest part. I am tempted to re-paint the bits I don’t like but I think I will just leave it for now and keep experimenting with different colours and shapes as I make more bowls. I’m not sure I like the lighter colours on this bowl that much, but I really love the red with the gold highlights. I am planning to make another and next time I will paint it various shades of red with gold highlights. I am already in the process of making couple more bowls using different shaped leaves but they are still drying. I will post pictures when they are done.

I’ve not finished with this little guy yet. I want to make him look like he ripping through a wall but he’s not being very cooperative at the moment. He is made of a Papier Mache shell that has been covered in paper clay. Will post more photos when I get him to do what I want him too!

As usual I started with one project in mind and got completely side tracked. Even so, I’m quite happy with the results. This Papier Mache leaf bowl takes on a different colour and shape depending on the light in the room and the angle you look at it.

The bowl is made up of four leaves and I’ve painted them each a slightly different autumn colour. I’ll be making more of these to experiment with some other colours. Each Bowl takes several days to finish but most of that time is for drying. Will add more photos after I have made some more.

Papier Mache Dragon

Fiddling with the small cardboard treasure chest I had just crudely assembled, I sighed. This was not what I envisioned when I set out to make a cute little treasure chest to hold a few chocolate coins. Handing the flimsy eye sore to my son to destroy at his leisure, I proceeded to ask the all-knowing Google what its thoughts might be on making a treasure chest. Google, being my best friend some days and my worst enemy others, wasn’t much help. It suggested wood or paddle pop sticks which would have been fine and dandy if I had such things lying around but alas these were not items in my possession. I looked at my pile of paper and card wishing I could transform it into something beautiful. I toyed with the idea of trying to papier Mache something that resembled a treasure chest. Again I turned to Google to give me some inspiration on papier Mache. I watched video after video of people creating amazing pieces out of papier Mache. I watched a man called Dan Reeder making some outstanding dragons out of paper and cloth Mache. I just had to make one….NOW!

Well, I was actually quite a slow process riddled with massive amounts of drying time however there were always some dragon bits to fiddle with while I waited. When I finally finished I propped my dragon up against the fence outside and snapped this picture.

While he looked nothing like I had planned he was still quite cute and the best thing about making him was that I learned a very valuable lesson. Always take you wedding ring off as not to papier Mache it inside of your dragon!!!!
